1st Durbanville Forms Second Troop

The 1st Durbanville Klipspringers, the group’s newest troop, recently surpassed all expectations when it reached the magical membership number of twenty.

The first meeting of the 1st Durbanville Klipspringers kicked off with only five scouts on 1 November 2023 and since then the troop has steadily grown. Johann Visser realized his dream of whittling the extensive 1st Durbanville troop waiting list down to zero when he started the troop with the assistance of Mike Stanley (1st Durbanville scouter), Mandy Burger (1st Durbanville den scouter) and Keagan Coetzee (1st Durbanville scout).

Mike Stanley subsequently took over the reins as troop scouter and has been instrumental in building the troop into a happy and well-functioning unit. This year the Klipspringers participated in the Upton Shield, the Orienteering competition and also in the district Buzz Macey competition. Many of our “Klippies”, as we fondly refer to them, have steadily advanced and participated in several of the regional badge courses.

The troop has no fewer than three ATS’s, namely, Logan Washer, Jonathan Bossenger and Mandy Burger. Recently Thomas Phillips moved from 1st Durbanville to the Klipspringers to become their troop leader. The troop meets on a Wednesday evening. Everyone at 1st Durbanville is super excited about our brand new troop!
